- The food supply is unhealthy, with little or no availability of healthy foods
- People face significant accessibility barriers to healthy foods
- Healthy foods are priced significantly higher than unhealthy foods
- People are consistently subjected to marketing of unhealthy foods
- People receive little or no health education and are nutritionally illiterate
- People have developed unhealthy dietary habits since childhood
