Healthy Islands will improve the health of island communities by addressing challenges of food equity resulting from unsustainable development.

Key Challenges
  • The food supply is unhealthy, with little or no availability of healthy foods
  • People face significant accessibility barriers to healthy foods
  • Healthy foods are priced significantly higher than unhealthy foods
  • People are consistently subjected to marketing of unhealthy foods
  • People receive little or no health education and are nutritionally illiterate
  • People have developed unhealthy dietary habits since childhood
